Principal's Welcome
Dear families,
Welcome to the St. Joseph’s Catholic College website. We are constnatly adding to the site so it will bring to you up to date information regarding the College and its many activities. I welcome your comments and feedback about the site.
There are many challenges facing young pe and their families today. At St. Joseph’s we hope to provide our young women with a solid education that develops their analytical and problem solving skills and prepares them to become confident and technologically competent members of 21st Century society.
What are some of the skills required in the C21st to be successful?
• Basic, scientific and technological literacy
• Cultural literacy and global awareness
• Adaptability & managing complexity
• Curiosity, creativity, and risk taking
• Higher order thinking and sound reasoning
• Team work, collaboration, interpersonal skills
• Have positive sense of self and of others -social wellbeing
But as the TV add says… but wait there is more… we are a Catholic school where our Gospel values are the foundation to our Catholic faith, a school where you can grow in confidence to make a positive difference in our ever changing world.
Recently I have had more time to read about Mary MacKillop. What impressed me was her ordinariness and simplicity and her commitment to carry out the work of God. Mary lived her life with a focus on being other people centered. One of her famous sayings was “never see a need without doing something about it!” Mary and the Josephite sisters who followed her were practical women who ‘rolled up their sleeves’ and got on with the job of welcoming and working with those less fortunate.
We too are called to be a people who serve God by putting others before us and helping those who are less fortunate than ourselves. This is done through the actions of our students involved in many social justice activities and by living out our values of Justice, Hope, Compassion and Respect.
St. Joseph’s has a wonderful reputation on the Central Coast for providing an excellent education which encourages the girl’s to learn and to achieve to the best of their ability.
There is no such thing as a perfect school, St. Joseph’s has a strong tradition of working with families and supporting parents in their role of primary educators of their daughters faith based on values such as justice, compassion, respect and hope. At the same time I firmly believe that young people need guidance and boundaries set by schools and supported by parents.
SJCC will present you with new challenges- your new uniform is an outward sign of a new beginning. Always wear it correctly and with pride – it is one important sign of school spirit.
Parents if you wish for your daughter to be as successful as she can possible be, we need to work together, and we must develop positive relationships, and work in partnership with one another.
I look forward to working with you in providing the best education for your daughters at St. Joseph’s Catholic College.
