Joey's Journal 7th Edition 2018

Following on from Pentecost Sunday last week we celebrate Trinity Sunday this weekend as the first Sunday after Pentecost to honour the Holy Trinity—the Father, Son and Holy Spirit. Although the word “trinity” does not appear in Scripture, it is taught in Matthew 28:18-20 and 2 Corinthians 13:14 (and many other biblical passages). Understanding of all scriptural doctrine is by faith which comes through the work of the Holy Spirit; therefore, it is appropriate that this mystery is celebrated the

Term 2 A very warm welcome back to Term 2 to all students and their families. I hope all students had a very relaxing and enjoyable break and are ready to commit themselves to achieve their very best throughout Term 2. As is always the case in schools, Term 1 was a very busy term with assessments, exams and class work all occupying much of our students’ time. The commitment many students showed to their studies as well as to the extra-curricular activities of the College ensured that Ter

I hope that all of our parents, students and staff enjoyed their recent four day Easter break and had the opportunity to spend time with loved ones and to join with other Christians to celebrate Jesus’ resurrection from the dead. On Holy Thursday we, as a school community, joined with St Edward’s to celebrate our Easter season with a very moving liturgy.

As we progress through the liturgical season of Lent we are asked to prepare ourselves for the most significant celebration in the Church calendar. This coming weekend we will celebrate Our Lord’s triumphant entrance into Jerusalem on Palm Sunday, where he was welcomed by crowds worshipping Him and laying down palm leaves before Him.

On Friday 16th March (Week 6) the College community will gather for Eucharist and a day of activities to celebrate the Feast Day of our patron, St Joseph. Joseph’s life was interesting and certainly challenging. We know Joseph was a compassionate and caring man. He was a man of faith, obedient to whatever God asked of him without knowing the outcome. Joseph respected God. He followed God's commands faithfully. Joseph is the patron of fathers, carpenters and social justice.

While the start to the year has been very busy it has also been very productive. Already this term we have had students involved in Peer Mentoring, a Mary Macs visit, Coast Shelter volunteering, training for Year 7 IT devices, a Scholars Assembly, Valentine’s Day stalls, a JJAMM leaders conference and a number of class excursions and sporting competitions.

On Sunday 26th November we celebrate the Solemnity of Christ the King. The Feast of Christ the King is, as Catholic feasts go, a relatively recent one. It was established by Pope Pius XI in 1925, to remind Catholics (and the world generally) that Jesus Christ is Lord of the Universe, both as God and as Man. This feast also draws to a close the Church year.

On Thursday of this week we celebrated All Souls Day. It is customary for us in our church and here at school to acknowledge All Souls throughout the whole of November. “It is therefore a holy and wholesome thought to pray for the dead, that they may be loosed from sins.” 2 Maccabees 12.46

On Sunday 22nd October we will celebrate in our Parishes as a Catholic community, ‘World Mission Day’. World Mission Day is celebrated every year in every country wherever there are Catholics committed to building a better world for all of God’s people. World Mission Sunday is a day set aside for the Catholic Church throughout the world to publicly renew its commitment to the missionary movement.
