On Sunday, 4th June, we celebrate Pentecost Sunday. Pentecost has been identified as the birthday of the Church as it is the time that Peter and the apostles discovered their courage and went out to start spreading the news that the world could be a better place if we acted as a community that was just and that cared about one another, particularly those who were disadvantaged, the sick, the poor and those who need protecting.

Over the next week we will have a couple of opportunities to farewell Ms Helen Love from St Joseph’s as she retires on Friday 26th May. One of these farewells will take the form of a school assembly for our students to show their appreciation and pass on their best wishes to her. The school assembly will occur at 8:30am on Thursday 25th May in Carroll Court (weather permitting). Parents are very welcome to attend this assembly.

For us as members of the St Joseph’s Catholic College community, the feast of St Joseph brings together our college motto ‘To Act Justly’ with that strong MacKillop tradition of ‘never seeing a need without doing something about it’, as well as an appreciation of our past and recognition of the dedicated ministry of the Sisters of St Joseph who have served the East Gosford community.

Ash Wednesday marks the beginning of the season of Lent, our 40 days of preparation for Easter. We will celebrate Ash Wednesday on 1st March (Week 5) with a whole school liturgy and the distribution of ashes. Lent is a penitential time in which we carefully consider how we are living as Christ’s presence in this world. It is a season of renewal where we make a commitment to reform our life: to become a better witness to God’s love for humanity.
