Personal Development, Health and Physical Education (PDHPE)

The PDHPE faculty St Joseph’s Catholic College engages students in both theoretical and practical experiences which help young women gain skills to lead quality lives in all the health dimensions- physical, social, emotional, mental and spiritual.
The delivery of quality programs ensures that students meet the outcomes of the Year 7 to 12 courses for PDHPE whilst enjoying a challenging and enjoyable Sport and Recreation Program from Years 7 to 10.

At St Joseph’s Catholic College, the aim is to develop and implement PDHPE programs which will enable students to:

  • Make responsible decisions for lifestyle and behaviours that will support them in their environment
  • Participate actively in exercise and develop life skills for lifelong healthy living

PDHPE is studied by all students from Years 7 to 10. The students cover all syllabus outcomes throughout this time.

Elective Courses

Stage 5: Year 9 and 10 PASS (Physical Activity and Sport Studies)

This is a 200 hour course over Years 9 and 10 and is aimed at students who want to extend their knowledge and studies beyond the PDHPE course. These students will be actively involved in developing personal fitness and physical skills in a range of sports, develop skills in leadership roles and understand the organisation and function of the sports industry and events.

Stage 6: Year 11 and 12 PDHPE (Personal Development and Physical Education)

This course provides an opportunity for students to explore in detail such topics as Health in Australia, Factors Affecting Performance, Sports Medicine, First Aid, and Outdoor Recreation. It looks at Australia’s health and related health concerns, exploring improving performance for various groups in the community as well as elite athletes.

It is ideal for students who would like to develop their interest and knowledge in sport related topics. This course may be of particular interest to provide an insight into careers such as: PDHPE Teaching, Physiotherapy, Sports Administration, Sports Nutrition, Sports Psychology, Exercise Science and Personal Training, Occupational Therapy, Nursing and Health Science.
